A clear packaging brief helps an OEM or ODM supplier understand what must be quoted, what can be customized, and which items still need approval.

1. Decide what the packaging set includes

List every item you expect with the finished eyewear: case, pouch, cleaning cloth, carton, hangtag, barcode label, instruction card, shipping carton, or other inserts. Separate items that are required for every style from optional items for a special collection. This prevents a quotation from silently excluding important packaging components.

2. Match packaging to the product and channel

Explain whether the eyewear will be sold online, in optical stores, through distributors, as a gift, or in another channel. A compact case may suit parcel delivery, while a retail display may need a different presentation. If the product will be shipped with multiple styles or sets, describe how each unit should be packed and labeled.

3. Prepare dimensions and protection requirements

Share the expected frame dimensions or a reference sample so the case and carton can be sized correctly. Note protection requirements such as lens separation, hinge protection, dust prevention, moisture control, or crush resistance. When final dimensions are not available, mark them as targets and request a fit check before packaging production.

4. Specify materials and finish

Describe the material direction for each packaging item, such as paperboard, recycled paper, fabric, EVA, leather-look material, plastic, or another option. Add the preferred surface finish, texture, color, lining, stitching, foil, embossing, or print treatment. Reference images are useful, but the final material and finish should be confirmed through a sample or approved specification.

5. Define branding and artwork

Show where the logo, product name, care information, barcode, country-of-origin statement, or other required text should appear. Provide artwork in an editable format when possible and identify the correct logo version, colors, and minimum size. Keep mandatory information separate from decorative design so revisions are easier to track.

6. Plan labels and SKU information

Tell the supplier how styles, colors, sizes, and barcodes should be identified. If you use internal SKUs, provide a sample label format and explain whether the label belongs on the case, carton, hangtag, or outer shipping box. A simple SKU table can reduce errors when several colorways are approved together.

7. Review samples before bulk packaging

Ask for a packaging sample or a combined product-and-packaging sample before approving bulk production. Check the fit, opening and closing action, logo position, print accuracy, color, odor, surface marks, labeling, and protection during handling. Coordinate this step with the eyewear sample approval checklist so packaging decisions are recorded with the product approval.

8. Clarify packing and shipping assumptions

Request a clear explanation of inner packing, master carton quantity, carton marks, estimated carton dimensions, and any shipping assumptions used in the quotation. These details may change after the final product and packaging samples are approved. They should therefore be treated as quote inputs to confirm, not as fixed promises before the order is finalized.

9. Use a packaging approval checklist

Packaging items included in the quote

Product fit and protection requirements

Materials, colors, finish, and print treatment

Logo artwork, care text, and SKU information

Sample type and approval responsibilities

Inner packing, master carton, and carton marks

Open items, exclusions, and revision notes

For a wider project brief, compare this checklist with the eyewear RFQ checklist and the eyewear manufacturing inspection and QC guide.
